Here are some of the
most frequently asked questions we receive when someone is
considering reglazing instead of replacing.
Does refinishing/reglazing work?
This is the one of the most common questions we get asked.
The answer is yes, if the work is done properly it could last 10 years or longer. Remember, this an affordable alternative
to an outright replacement, which could cost well over $1,000.
And honestly there is no surface which will last forever, not
even porcelain.
Does the process have an odor?
It does have an odor but it is important to note that the smell is non-toxic and the odor will
dissipate within just a few hours time.
How long does the process take?
On average, it takes approximately 4 hours for a standard tub,
but can be up to 6 hours, depending on the condition of the
bathtub and if it needs to be stripped.
What are the steps
involved to reglaze?
There are basically 7
or 8 steps involved in a reglaze project. They are:
-
Remove existing
caulking
-
Acid etch the bathtub
-
Blow dry the tub
-
Repair any chips (if
necessary)
-
Complete sanding of
the tub
-
Tape around tub to
avoid any overspray
-
Apply 2 coats of
primer paint
-
Apply 4 coats of the
finishing material
What type of
finishing material do you use?
We use a material
called 'EP-Acrylic' finish. It is a high performance
acrylic polymer material that features all of the advantages of
urethane materials, but without the isocyantanes (toxic fumes),
making it safe for our installers and you, our customer!
The special material
also provides high UV resistance, which helps with non-yellowing
and colour retention.
Do
you offer a Non-slip Treatment?
Yes we do! For
a nominal extra charge, we can provide a non-slip coating to the
bottom of your tub which would be comparable in price to those
unsightly, and damaging, stick-on pads.
Do you offer a
warranty?
We provide a full 5
year warranty for residential home owners and a 3 year warranty
for any rental property.
What is covered
under the warranty?
The finish is
guaranteed against peeling, blistering or discolouring with
regular use for timeframe indicated above.
What is NOT
covered under the warranty?
Any damage caused by
the use of harsh abrasives, bleaches, dyes, hair dyes, coloured
bath oils, ammonia or by being chipped or scratched by sharp
objects, pets or high water temperatures and neglect are not
covered by the warranty.
When can I use my bathtub after you leave?
After we leave you will have to wait 24 hours before removing the masking tape and paper,
then you are able to recaulk the area and start enjoying your new tub!
What can I use to clean my new surface with?
We recommend the use of foam or non-abrasive liquid cleaners
such as Vim, Mr.Clean or Fantastic. You should also clean
the bathtub at least once a week.
Do you have any
other tips for maintenance?
To help maintain the
beauty of the new finish...
-
Do not rest soap
bars, shampoo bottles, or leave wet cloths on the surface.
-
Be sure faucets are
tightly closed and drain shower pipe after each use.
-
As with a new tub,
remove excess water and wipe after each use.
Bathmats…
-
Bathmats are the
single most damaging thing you can do to your tub!
-
You should not use
suction cup bathmats or stick-on type flowers or stripes.
-
If you use a bathmat,
remove it after each use and do not hang mat over tub.
Remember, if you
treat your new surface with respect, clean it regularly, and
keep your taps dry, your fixture will stay like new for many
years.
Can I use the bathtub before you arrive?
Yes, the tub does not need to be dry before we arrive. You can
use it right up to the minute before I arrive.
What should I do to prepare the bathroom before you arrive?
The only preparation would be to remove all items from the tub area and if the tub has shower
doors, the doors and tracks MUST be removed prior to our arrival.
If you have any
additional questions or concerns that we have not addressed here
please give us a call. We will be happy to assist further
in any way we can!
